oh Brazil

Missing the simplicity, self-sufficiency and fresh milk each morning. I love everyone who looked out for us in Brazil. Thank you.

Derek is a good neighbour and Romey is a fast and lovely dog. This is a fairly isolating place to live so walks like this one are a pleasure.

‘SHE LOOKS FOREIGN…’

MEMBERS OF THE ENGLISH DEFENCE LEAGUE CAME TO AYLESBURY ON MAY 1ST. IT SEEMED FAIRLY TAME IN COMPARISON TO PREVIOUS OCCUPATIONS IN OTHER LOCATIONS, BUT IT WAS STILL MORE THAN ENOUGH. TIRED BY THE END OF WHAT I SAW AND HEARD, I STOPPED TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS. HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS ACCEPTABLE TO SOME PEOPLE.

After visiting the Ron Mueck exhibition in Manchester, i finally realised that the sort of art  – in each  of it’s many guises – that attracts me most is the realistic sort. I find the recreation of something human, often far more pleasing and impressive than works of fantasy. Mainly, i think, for the fact that we have something to compare  and assess it against. Mueck’s sculptures are experiencing private moments of emotion and it feels odd being present – watching from just beyond the white tape barriers that protect them – because you were on your own when you last felt that way . It is compelling.
